Communities of practice conference 2007

Feedback from conference delegates and the buzz that permeated the proceedings confirm that NDS Queensland’s inaugural Communities of Practice conference was a great success.
The networks, ideas and inspiration that many of us took from the conference support the idea that Margaret Wheatley put forward in her keynote address — that conversation is a powerful vehicle for personal transformation and systemic reform.
In their conversations, conference delegates were asked to reflect on the non-government disability sector and the work that it does. They were asked to reflect on what concerns us, reflect on the passion that drives us, and reflect on what it is that defines us.
Was it legislation or the availability of funding that defines the hopes and aspirations of non-government service providers? Or are we better characterised by our willingness to work together and find cooperative solutions to our challenges?
As keynote speaker Margaret Wheatley reminded us, “humans can handle anything so long as we’re together”.
Conference delegates confirmed that in celebrating our diversity, we will build a stronger Community of Practice.
