What is the Rockhampton Community of Practice?
In 2009, the Spinal Injuries Association organised and hosted an Inclusive Communities Workshop in Rockhampton with the aim of:
- sharing information;
- identifying key stakeholders in the region; and
- exploring 'inclusive communities' from an organisational perspective.
Workshop feedback indicated that participants wanted to spend more time exploring issues around inclusive communities and to seek to broaden the discussion across the community (including the private sector). Following the workshop, NDS facilitated the first meeting of the Rockhampton Community of Practice.
The Rockhampton Community of Practice has since defined their purpose as to:
Create the platform to achieve social inclusion, raise awareness and foster
and nurture ongoing participation
This community of practice includes representatives from:
- the Spinal Injuries Association;
- Capricorn Citizen Advocacy;
- the Rockhampton Morning Bulletin;
- Wandal Community Garden;
- Centacare;
- the Regional Disability Council;
- Centrelink;
- the Capricorn Division of General Practice;
- CQ Healing Services;
- Rockhampton Regional Development;
- the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Qld; and
- National Disability Services.
Their vision is:
A vibrant and connected community with heightened awareness
and acceptance that celebrates diversity
